TORONTO, June 29 (UPI) -- A driver and a pedestrian were killed in Toronto Wednesday when a car went over a street curb and hit three people, authorities said.

The driver was a 50-year-old man and the pedestrian was an 87-year-old woman, the Toronto Sun reported. The other two pedestrians, a man and a woman, were recovering from their injuries in a hospital.

Police said the car traveled several hundred yards along the grass bordering the sidewalk before striking a traffic light pole about 11:35 a.m., the Sun said.

Police said the driver may have suffered a medical emergency, but the cause of the accident had yet to be determined.
