Lt. Gen. Ziya Guler, who appeared at a courthouse Tuesday along with three other officers to testify on suspected coup documents seized last year, was ordered arrested, Today's Zaman reported Wednesday.
The seized documents were part of the so-called Sledgehammer Security Operation Plan, an alleged coup plan devised at a military gathering in 2003 that reportedly sought to undermine the government to prepare the way for a military takeover.
The court also ordered a non-commissioned officer, Bulent Akalin, arrested.
A number of secret documents were seized last December at the Golcuk Naval Command by police officers.
Some of the documents contained information on top state figures as to their religious and political tendencies, while others allegedly suggested what would happen after a military takeover.
