Saleh's aides say he will go home soon

SANAA, Yemen, June 17 (UPI) -- Yemeni officials vowed again Friday that wounded President Ali Abdullah Saleh will return from Saudi Arabia soon.

Deputy Information Minister Abdu al-Janadi and a diplomat at the Yemeni Embassy in Riyadh told the Chinese news agency Xinhua the president will go back to Sanaa within days.

They denied Saudi reports that Saleh was not ready to go home and said he was recovering well from wounds suffered in a June 4 bombing that killed 11 of his bodyguards and wounded many officials.

Opposition spokesman Mohamed Qahtan said the wounded president's return "is not our problem ... We insist that Saleh not return to power again."

Saleh has been resisting demands to resign since January.
