Wedding massacre perps get death sentence

BAGHDAD, June 16 (UPI) -- Iraq's Central Committee Court sentenced to death Thursday the perpetrators of the 2006 massacre at a marriage party in Duleil, a judicial spokesman said.

Abdul-Sattar al-Biraqdar said the court issued the sentence of death by hanging against Firas al-Jiboury and several followers, al-Iraqya TV reported

Seventy people, including women and children, were killed in the massacre north of Baghdad. Several organizations have demanded that Iraqi President Jalal Talabani or his authorized agent sign the death warrants.

Talabani, who hasn't signed off on death sentences, has authorized Vice President Khudhier al-Khuzae, to sign the death sentences, Iraqi news agency Aswat al-Iraq reported.
