BRUSSELS, June 7 (UPI) -- Serbian President Boris Tadic said his country will never accept an independent Kosovo.

"Serbia, its administration, the government, and I as president will neither implicitly nor explicitly recognize Kosovo," Tadic said in Brussels.

The Serbian leader made the comment following a meeting with European Council President Herman van Rompuy, the Serbian news agency Tanjug reported Tuesday.

Serbia is seeking membership in the European Union.

Tadic said there are some countries that would like to see recognition of Kosovo as a precondition to Serbia's EU candidacy.

"That will not happen," he said. "We will not do that. This is the red line we will not cross under any conditions."

Ethnic Albanians in Kosovo unilaterally proclaimed independence in early 2008.

Tadic said dialog with the Kosovo Albanian authorities to resolve the daily life problems of people in Kosovo was part of its effort to enter the EU.
