Italian premier's brother indicted

ROME, June 5 (UPI) -- Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi's brother was indicted in Rome for allegedly illegally publishing the transcripts of a wiretap.

Paolo Berlusconi, owner of the conservative newspaper Il Giornale, published the 2005 transcripts of Piero Fassino, head of Democratic Party, and Giovanni Consorte, the former head of Unipol, an association of insurers, discussing a bid to take over an Italian bank, ANSA reported.

Roberto Raffaelli, head of Research Control System, the company hired to do the wiretap, allegedly played the tape for Paolo Berlusconi before it was logged at evidence, the Italian news agency said. Raffaelli then played the tape for him again later at the premier's private mansion. Businessman Fabrizio Favata, with Raffaelli that evening, confirmed this, the news agency said.

Paolo Berlusconi is also charged with receiving money for getting Research Control System a job in Romania.

The premier is also having legal troubles, facing three charges of conspiracy and a trial for allegedly paying to have sex with an underage prostitute.

The indictment was served on Friday, and Paolo Berlusconi will stand trial Oct. 4.
