Tourist dies from alcohol poisoning

ANTALYA, Turkey, May 30 (UPI) -- Alcohol poisoning killed a Russian tourist in Turkey and left six others hospitalized in critical condition, the Russian consulate in Antalya said.

RIA Novosti Monday reported19 people staying at the Turkish Aegean resort of Bodrum were treated for alcohol poisoning. Doctors said the conditions of several of the critically ill tourists had declined in the past 24 hours.

Doctors said the tourists started showing symptoms of alcohol poisoning soon after returning from a yacht with about 70 other Russian tourists.

The dead woman is Maria Shalyapina, 28. Her husband, Dmitry Pakhomov, said she became ill during a tour organized by the Russian tourist agency Mostravel.

RIA Novosti said it had not yet received a comment from Mostravel.
