North Korea naval base nearly complete

SEOUL, May 29 (UPI) -- North Korea is close to completing a giant naval base near its sea border with South Korea, a government source told Yonhap News Agency Sunday.

The base, at Goampo in Hwanghae province, can maintain 60 air-cushioned vessels that could be used for infiltration attacks, the South Korean news agency said.

The source told Yonhap South Korea has seen hangar-type buildings and air-cushioned vessels at the base, which is 50 kilometers from the South's northernmost island of Baengnyeong.
