JERUSALEM, May 14 (UPI) -- Palestinians and Israeli police clashed for a second day Saturday in East Jerusalem on the eve of the anniversary of Israel's statehood, police said.

The funeral of a 17-year-old Palestinian who was shot during skirmishes Friday heightened tensions Saturday, Haaretz reported.

Palestinians marched in the funeral procession chanting in Arabic to the dead teen "With our souls and our blood we will redeem you," Ynetnews reported.

Israeli security forces said the youth was shot in the abdomen when forces saw a Molotov cocktail being thrown into an Israeli-dominated neighborhood.

In Saturday's violence, two Palestinians were reported injured by rubber bullets during altercations with Israeli forces.

Resident Abu Sharif told Ynet Palestinians consider Israel's independence a "nakba," or catastrophe and the shooting of a teenager was a further insult.

"People here are furious," he said. "Today and tomorrow will be days of blood and violence."
