Uganda lets opposition leader fly home

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 11 (UPI) -- A Ugandan opposition leader said Wednesday he will be allowed to fly home from Kenya after being barred from an earlier flight.

Kizza Besigye spoke to The Nation newspaper of Nairobi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where he was prevented from boarding a Kenya Airways flight to Entebbe, Uganda, Wednesday morning.

The airline confirmed that he would be on a later flight. It said it kept Besigye off the morning flight after "internal intelligence sources" said Uganda would not let it land with him aboard.

The Kenya government said it had no role in the incident.

Besigye was returning to Uganda after being treated in Nairobi for injuries sustained in a Kampala protest two weeks ago.

Besigye was the main opponent of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in February elections. Museveni is to be sworn in for a fourth term Thursday.
