BAGHDAD, May 10 (UPI) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday his country is ready to strengthen its cooperation with Iraq in the area of technical military equipment.

Lavrov told a news conference during a visit to Baghdad that Russia is ready for cooperation in a number of spheres, RIA Novosti reported.

He said his visit would include discussing the possible participation of Russian companies on projects in agriculture, water management, transport and oil exploration.

The foreign minister also said he was carrying a special message to Iraq's prime minister from Russia President Dmitry Medvedev.

"Hopefully, it won't appear on Wikileaks," Lavrov joked.

Talks between Russia and Iraq will also focus on the wave of anti-government protests that has swept the Middle East and North Africa, Ria Novosti said.
