Medvedev signs nuclear pact with Turkey

MOSCOW, May 7 (UPI) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a nuclear cooperation agreement with Turkey the countries negotiated two years ago, officials said Saturday.

The Duma ratified the 2009 pact last month, RIA Novosti reported. It was agreed on in 2009 when Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited Ankara.

Last year, Russia also agreed to build and operate the first nuclear power plant in Turkey. Work on the $20 billion project is expected to get under way in 2013.
