Moscow man detained in sexual assaults

MOSCOW, April 25 (UPI) -- Moscow area police say they have detained a convicted serial rapist dubbed "The Elevator Man" following an assault on young girls.

Moscow resident Oleg Kosarev, 45, was detained Thursday at an apartment in Serpukhov, about 62 miles south of Moscow, The Moscow Times reported.

Kosarev was released from prison last year after serving 15 years for sexual assaults. He admitted to sexually assaulting 137 victims but was convicted in just 40 cases. He earned his moniker because many of the incidents occurred in elevators.

Investigators said a man wearing dark glasses and carrying three red carnations sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in the hall of an apartment building in Serpukhov Feb. 25. The girl was also forced to drink a liquid that made her extremely ill, the report said.

In an attack April 7, a male between 40 and 50 years old wearing dark glasses threatened two high school students with a knife in the elevator of an apartment building in Serpukhov. He sexually assaulted one of them.

Kosarev allegedly confessed to sexually abusing two minors in Serpukhov this year, an investigator's statement said.
