Man arrested in Russian TV show bombing

MOSCOW, April 25 (UPI) -- Moscow police said they arrested a man suspected of planting bombs near the set of a television reality show, one of which exploded, injuring one person.

A security guard for the program Don-2, a Russian version of the popular Big Brother reality show, was injured when he and another guard discovered a backpack left near a fence surrounding the set and he tried to move it, causing it to explode, RIA Novosti reported Monday.

A second backpack containing explosives was found about 150 yards away and was defused by security forces.

Police said the suspect, from the western Siberian city of Novokuznetsk, had tried to participate in the reality show several times but failed to make it through the initial casting stage.

He has a past criminal record of theft and drug possession, police said.
