Plane crash in Brazil kills 7 in family

MANAUS, Brazil, April 22 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed after takeoff in the northern region of Brazil Friday and killed its seven occupants, all members of the same family, officials said.

The accident occurred shortly after the aircraft, a twin-engine Seneca PA34, left Eduardo Gomes International Airport, just west of Amazonas, Manaus, the Brazilian Company of Airport Infrastructure reported.

The plane went down near the airport's runway and debris was scattered outside the airport area.

Flight operations were suspended after the accident, O Globo reported.

The aircraft was carrying three men, three women and a child from the same family, officials said.

The pilot was identified as Antonio Neto Picao.

The plane was operated by Amazonaves Air Taxi and was headed toward Santarem, Para.

The cause of the accident was uncertain.
