Ronan Kerr, 25, died April 5 when a car bomb exploded as he left his home in Omagh to drive to work. A Catholic and Gaelic football enthusiast, Kerr joined the Police Service of Northern Ireland last year.

Investigators said they believe the bombing was the work of dissident Republicans who have rejected the peace process.

Two other men held for questioning in connection with the bombing were released unconditionally this week. Also this week, police officers in Belfast responding to a bogus emergency call escaped death when a bomb attached to a gatepost failed to explode.
