Gay couple ejected from bar for kissing

LONDON, April 15 (UPI) -- The ejection of two men kissing in a London pub has inspired a kiss-in at the bar by people who say the men were victims of discrimination.

Jonathan Williams, 26, and James Bull, 23, told The Guardian they were on their first date and went to the John Snow pub in Soho in central London Wednesday to enjoy a few drinks after dinner when its proprietors asked them to leave because they were kissing each other on the lips.

"We weren't being over the top; there wasn't anything that would be deemed unseemly," Williams said. "I'm not the kind of person to do that kind of thing in public."

Apparently the only people offended by their "snogging" were the pub's managers, a husband and wife. After being ejected, Williams turned to Twitter to complain about their treatment.

"Seven years in London & I've never been made to feel bad for being gay. 45 min ago the John Snow pub … (management) had me removed for kissing a date," Williams tweeted.

His post was repeated dozens of times and inspired the scheduling of at least two kiss-ins at the pub, one for Friday and another next week.

A Facebook page commenting on the second event resulted in a message saying: "Let's show them just how fun same-sex salaciousness can be when its filling up a pub."

Another post said: "Tonight over 400 people have committed to a 'kiss-in' at the John Snow, where the saga began. Please remember THIS IS A LOVE REVOLUTION ... just lip balm, fresh breath, and kissing. It's all about being fun and sexy."

The Guardian said it was unable to get a comment from pub management.
