Mubarak denies graft, threatens libel suit

CAIRO, April 10 (UPI) -- Breaking two months of silence since his downfall, Egypt's Hosni Mubarak denied corruption Sunday and threatened to sue his accusers for slander.

In a short audio message broadcast on al-Arabiya television, the ousted Egyptian president denounced "false allegations ... aimed to taint" his reputation, CNN reported.

Mubarak, who has been living in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik since resigning Feb. 11, said he has agreed to let prosecutors contact foreign governments to determine whether he and his family own properties or bank accounts abroad.

"I will reserve my right to sue anyone who tried to undermine me or my reputation," he added.
