CAIRO, April 10 (UPI) -- Egypt's Revolution Youth Coalition is demanding authorities investigate weekend violence in Cairo's Tahrir Square that left two protesters dead.
The coalition announced a news conference Sunday to reveal its future plans, but said it would postpone talks with the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces until the end of the probe, Bikyamasr.com reported Sunday.
"The coalition will call for an open sit-in in Tahrir (Square) beginning next Friday if the council is not swift in the investigation and the trials," an unnamed member of the coalition told the al-Dostour newspaper, the Web site said.
The Supreme Coalition of the Armed Forces late Saturday said it would break up protests in Tahrir Square, al Masry-al Youm said Sunday.
In the early hours of Saturday, military and police forces attacked protesters with live ammunition, the newspaper said, adding a Ministry of Health official said one person was killed and 71 injured. However journalist Ahmed Abdel Jawad told the newspaper he saw seven dead.
The Council denied the allegations and said armed supporters of ousted President Hosni Mubarak were responsible for the injuries and entered Tahrir Sqare with machine guns and barbed wire.
Israel's Embassy in Cairo was the site of another weekend protest where a crowd of some 2,000 gathered outside the buiilding demanding to sever diplomatic ties with Israel, Haaretz said. Some of the demonstrators set fire to an Israeli flag.
Under Mubarak's rule protests against Israel were banned, the paper said.
