Fallujah battle becomes an issue in Iraq

BAGHDAD, April 4 (UPI) -- Iraq's Parliament called off a vote Monday on declaring the 2004 U.S. attack on Fallujah a massacre, a political source said.

The move by government supporters was targeted at opposition leader Iyad Allawi, who was prime minister at the time, al-Sumaria TV reported.

Members of Allawi's Iraqiya bloc, which met to discuss the matter Sunday, denied he had any responsibility.

Government MP Ali Shalah told AKnews Allawi should be questioned on the issue.

Kurdish MP Shuan Mohamed Taha objected to equating the Fallujah battle with Saddam Hussein's gassing of the Kurds at Halabja in 1988, which Parliament has declared genocide.
