Spain P.M. Zapatero say no third term

MADRID, April 2 (UPI) -- Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said Saturday he will not seek a third term in the country's next general election in 2012.

Zapatero made the announcement before his socialist workers party's federal committee, the Spanish news agency EFE reported.

"I will not be a candidate in the forthcoming general elections," he said. "Thank you for your respect and your love."

Zapatero, 50, has been in office since April 2004.
