The couple's son, Guy Boland, 42, and granddaughter, Hannah, 12, were seriously injured. The bodies of the pilot and of a woman whose identity had not been released were discovered in the wreckage.

The Bolands own Lagnacourt Farming in Moree.

Buck Timmins, 55, told the Champion he has known Digby Boland for almost 40 years and worked for him for the last eight as a contract farmer. He described him as the best possible boss.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has joined the investigation.
