MOSCOW, March 13 (UPI) -- Millions of Russians voted Sunday in about 3,200 regional elections across the country, officials said.

Sunday is United Voting Day, and polling places were open in 74 of Russia's 83 regions, RIA Novosti reported.

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich was a candidate for the Chukotka regional Legislature. He owns the FC Chelsea soccer team and was governor of Russia's easternmost region from 2001 to 2008. He currently is chairman of the Chukotka Duma.

Ten regional capitals were voting to elect town councils.
