Stepfather calls Amanda Knox movie 'crap'

PERUGIA, Italy, March 12 (UPI) -- The stepfather of Amanda Knox says a movie about her and the woman she was convicted of killing in Italy is "crap."

Knox, 23, was back in court Saturday in Perugia as the appeal of her case resumed, London's Daily Telegraph reported.

Knox, of Seattle, was convicted of murdering Meredith Kercher in November 2007. Knox's former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, and another man, Rudy Guede, were also convicted of assault and murder.

The film that Knox's stepfather, Chris Mellas, referred to was first shown late last month. Mellas said the movie, "Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy," is full of inaccuracies.

Mellas was in the courtroom in Perugia Saturday, along with Knox's best friend, Madison Paxton.

Asked if he had watched the film about Kercher's murder, Mellas said, "Still haven't watched it -- it's still a piece of crap."

Knox was granted an appeal after her lawyers contested DNA evidence on a knife and a bra strap belonging to Kercher.

Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison for the killing. Sollecito and Guede each received terms of 25 years.
