MOSCOW, March 11 (UPI) -- A Russian national taken hostage in Nigeria last month has been released, officials said.

Tatyana Eyiuche was released in a joint operation with Nigerian police, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

"She is safe, and her health is satisfactory," Russia's Foreign Ministry said.

Kidnappings and attacks on foreigners by groups demanding local residents get a larger share of the country's oil income have become frequent since 2006, the report said.

Further details were unavailable.
