LONDON, March 3 (UPI) -- Attorneys for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said they appealed his extradition from England to Sweden for questioning related to sexual assault claims.

The high court in London confirmed it received documents challenging last week's ruling that Assange could be extradited to Sweden, The Guardian reported Thursday.

A hearing hasn't been scheduled. If his appeal fails, Assange could be sent to Sweden within 10 days of the ruling.

The 39-year-old Australian has been fighting extradition since he was arrested in December. He has denied the allegations of sexual misconduct made by two women in August. He also expressed fear that Sweden would extradite him to the United States on possible charges related to the release of sensitive military and diplomatic material by WikiLeaks.

Assange faces four sex crime-related claims, the most serious being an allegation he had non-consensual, unprotected sex with a woman while she slept. Three sexual assault claims were made by another woman.
