Napoleon love letter to be auctioned

MOSCOW, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A love letter from Napoleon Bonaparte to wife Josephine lamenting her lack of affection for him goes up for auction Saturday in Moscow, authorities say.

In the letter to be offered at the Gelos art auction, written in 1796 by the 26-year-old future French emperor to his 32-year-old wife, Napoleon confesses glory is of value to him only because it flatters her but laments her feelings toward him are nothing but a whim, RIA Novosti reports.

The love letter sold in 2006 for $120,000 and again for $445,000 in 2008 at a Christie's art auction.

The Gelos auction lists about 800 objects for auction this year, including what it considers three works valued at more than $100,000 each, RIA Novosti said.
