LAGOS, Nigeria, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Unidentified assailants killed 12 people and seriously injured several others Tuesday in an attack on a village in Nigeria, a military spokesman said.

Among those killed in Rwang Fang were a driver, his wife and four children, the Lagos Vanguard reported.

Capt. Charles Ekeocha, spokesman for the military's Special Task Force, said villagers did not report the incident until after the attackers had fled.

"A military helicopter has been deployed there for aerial surveillance because some cattle were also rustled during the attack," Ekeocha said.
