MONTREAL, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- The deaths of two elderly people in a house stacked with junk to the ceiling in suburban Montreal were being investigated by a coroner, police said.
Paramedics responding to a call at the home late Sunday had to call for police and firefighters' assistance to clear a path to reach a 72-year-old man who had apparently suffered a stroke, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Tuesday.
Police also found an 82-year-old woman in the house who had to be hospitalized for hypothermia. A neighbor said either the heat hadn't been turned on or the piles of clutter were blocking the heat.
The stroke victim died soon after arriving at the hospital in Longeuil and the woman died Monday of pneumonia, the report said.
A 66-year-old woman who was also in the house remained hospitalized Monday with undisclosed medical problems, police said.
Monday, police returned to the home to remove three dogs and a cat.
All names were being withheld until families could be contacted, the report said.
