Member of Parliament turns in colleagues

LONDON, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Six members of Britain's Parliament face fraud investigations after a colleague told police they were padding expense accounts, officials said.

Scotland Yard confirmed a small number of cases are being investigated, The Sunday Telegraph reported.

The allegations related to inflated claims for expenditures for items such as maintenance and utility bills.

The informant made the allegations because he believes he was unfairly singled out in an investigation over his own expenses. None of the parties was named in the newspaper report.

David Chaytor, a former Labor party member of Parliament, was sentenced to 18 months in jail earlier this year after admitting to false accounting.

Eric Illsley said he will resign from Parliament after entering a guilty plea to fraudulently claiming more than $20,000 in expenses. He will be sentenced next month.
