ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Four militants were killed Friday in a suspected U.S. drone strike in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal area, officials said.

The attack occurred near the town of Miranshah close to the border with Afghanistan, believed to be a haven for al-Qaida and the Taliban, the BBC reported.

Local officials told the BBC missiles fired from the drone targeted a vehicle. The report quoted Pakistani officials as saying those killed were militants.

The U.S. military does not routinely comment on such operations.
