JERUSALEM, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Hours after the Israeli air force hit terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip, Palestinians fired a Qassam rocket at southern Israel Wednesday, the army said.
A Qassam rocket exploded in southern Israel near the Eshkol Regional Council. No one was injured and no damage was reported, the army said.
It was the second rocket fired at southern Israel within 24 hours.
A Qassam rocket Tuesday exploded in the Ashkelon region, causing no damage or injuries, the army said.
In response to the rocket fire, the Israeli air force in a joint operation with Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) bombed a tunnel used for smuggling in southern Gaza near Rafah and a site that served as a training base for the Hamas military wing in central Gaza, the army said.
No one was injured in the airstrikes, Ma'an news agency said Wednesday, adding no one claimed responsibility for Tuesday's rocket attack.
