Abbas says peace with Israel achievable

RAMALLAH, West Bank, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A peace agreement with Israel could be signed in two months, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday.

In an interview on Palestinian television, Abbas said such a deal depends on the good intentions of Israel's Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and stressed that decisions must be made in order to reach a peace deal, Israel Radio reported.

Abbas also said the capital of a future Palestinian state will be east Jerusalem and stressed the issue is not debatable, the radio said.

Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said in the coming days a solution condemning Israel's settlement construction will be submitted to the United Nations, the radio said.

Erekat called on Netanyahu to bring an end to Israel's occupation of Palestinian land, the radio said.

On Friday, Abbas attended the cornerstone ceremony of the future Palestinian embassy in Brazil on land donated by the Brazilian government, The Jerusalem Post said.
