Drone missiles kill eight in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A U.S. drone missile strike in northwest Pakistan killed eight suspected militants in a convoy, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

Four missiles struck the convoy of militants traveling by car and by foot Friday near the town of Ghulam Khan in the North Waziristan tribal area along the Afghan border, Britain's Guardian reported.

The attack followed two drone missile attacks earlier this week that killed 35 suspected militants as part of a U.S. effort to target al-Qaida and Taliban fighters seeking hiding places on the Pakistani side of the border, the newspaper said.

Elsewhere, a bomb targeting a NATO supply convoy in the town of Chaman in Baluchistan province injured one person as thousands of demonstrators took to the streets to protest the continuing drone attacks along the border, which they say kill innocent villagers.
