Anna Chapman won't say she was a spy

MOSCOW, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Anna Chapman, the young Russian woman expelled from the United States as a spy, would not confirm she is an agent in an appearance on Russian TV.

Instead, on the talk show "Let Them Speak," Chapman, 28, reminisced about living in New York and said she is a fan of Angelina Jolie, The New York Times reported. She said she has a "passion" for shooting, would like a lion cub for a pet and has joined the youth wing of the governing party. After she said that, one was brought into the studio for her and she promptly named it "Nano," the BBC reported.

But there was one subject she would not address.

"I will never confirm whether I worked in intelligence," she said.

Chapman and nine others were arrested earlier this year and returned to Russia in an exchange of spies. Some in the group had been in the United States for 10 years, but what they were doing is unclear since they appear to have gathered only information easily available from public sources.

Chapman, who has kept the last name of her British ex-husband, has become a celebrity in her homeland.

"She is without exaggeration the woman of the year," said Andrei Malakhov, the talk show's host.
