Pakistani premier faults drone attacks

MULTAN, Pakistan, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Pakistan's prime minister Sunday criticized U.S. drone strikes as counterproductive in the fight against terrorism.

Speaking in Multan, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani assailed the use of drones by foreign powers but said, "We have asked them to provide us with drone technology so we can use it against terrorists," the government's Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

He said the terrorists' strongholds have been eliminated and they are on the run, which is "why they are attacking soft targets."

Gilani also said leaders of his Pakistan People's Party would be updated on the investigation of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's 2007 assassination.
