The Ottawa police watchdog Special Investigations Unit said Constable Babak Andalib-Goortani was charged with assault with a weapon, The Toronto Sun reported Wednesday.
On Nov. 25 the SIU acknowledged excessive force had been used against protester Adam Nobody June 26, but said they were unable to identify anyone in a video capturing the incident, the newspaper said.
Other protesters provided pictures and additional video of the same scene to the SIU.
On Dec. 9, Toronto police provided the names of 15 officers who might have been in the vicinity or involved in Nobody's arrest.
Toronto police later gave the SIU the name of an additional witness officer who was able to identify Andalib-Goortani, the Sun reported.
Andalib-Goortani is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 24.
