El Salvador shaken by 5.6 earthquake

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- An earthquake that registered at magnitude 5.6 rumbled through El Salvador Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Early reports from Salvadoran media indicated the quake was felt by many people in the capital San Salvador but there were no signs of significant damage or injuries.

The USGS said in a written statement the quake struck around 11:21 a.m. El Salvador time and was centered 58 miles southeast of San Salvador and 26 miles south-southwest of Usulutan.
