Poaching ship rams S. Korean coast guard

SEOUL, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A Chinese fisherman was killed when his poaching ship hit a South Korean coast guard vessel, the Yonhap news agency reported from Seoul.

Coast guard officials said following the incident last Saturday, the fishing crew resisted arrest and fought guardsmen with steel bars. In the brawl, two Chinese fishermen went overboard and were missing. A third Chinese man died of undisclosed injuries, while four coast guardsmen were injured, CNN said.

The area off Eocheong Island is a regular poaching site for Chinese trawlers and arrests are common, although not usually this violent, the coast guard said.
