SEOUL, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A South Korean official said Sunday he didn't believe much came from last week's visit to North Korea by a top Chinese envoy.
The official, who declined to be identified publicly, told the Korea Times the meeting between North Korean President Kim Jong-il and Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo produced some limited results but nothing substantial in regards to growing tensions in the region.
"It appears that there is little difference in the North's position," the official said.
The source declined to elaborate on Seoul's analysis of the meeting. China briefed South Korea on the meeting Friday night.
South Korea and the United States have publicly called on China to use its influence on the North Korean regime to reduce tensions that reached a boiling point last month with a deadly artillery attack on a South Korean island.
The Times said North Korea continued its bellicose rhetoric against the South and the United States this weekend. A government statement warned its forces were ready to throw back any invasion.
