Ex-con coach pleads guilty to sex abuse

MONTREAL, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A former Montreal children's hockey coach pleaded guilty in a Quebec court to six counts of sexual assault on players ages 11 to 15, court records show.

Gilles Dube, 55, of St. Georges de La Malbaie, Quebec, faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years for sexual touching and invitation to sexual touching, The (Montreal) Gazette reported Monday.

Dube had a prior conviction of sexual assault against a girl he coached in ringette, a hockey-type game usually played by girl teams, The Gazette said.

Crown Prosecutor Rachel Pitre said she did not know how a person with a criminal record could be hired to coach children's hockey.

The incidents happened between 2002 and 2009, including in Dube's car as he drove the children to or from hockey games, the newspaper said.

Dube knew the parents of most of the children, the newspaper said.

He is scheduled for a court appearance on April 5, when Judge Isabelle Rheault will review pre-sentencing reports on Dube's suitability for parole and a psycho-sexual assessment.

Dube said he regrets his actions, the newspaper said.
