Arrest warrants issued in Bhutto's death

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- A Pakistani court has issued arrest warrants against a former police chief in connection with the 2007 assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Saud Aziz, former chief of police in Rawalpindi, was ordered to appear before Pakistan's Anti-Terrorist Court on Dec. 11 along with Superintendent of Police Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad.

DawnNews.com said Saturday the warrants were issued despite their lawyers' contention they had been cleared of any wrongdoing by the investigation into Bhutto's death in 2007.

Elements of the Pakistani government have been accused by United Nations investigators of failing to provide adequate security for Bhutto, a former prime minister, during her 2007 presidential campaign.
