Weather blamed for 3 Canada traffic deaths

CALGARY, Alberta, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Two car crashes in Alberta, Canada, that claimed three lives have been blamed on snowy and icy road conditions, authorities said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said a driver of one car was killed Friday when he lost control on Highway 580 north of Calgary, sideswiped an oncoming pickup truck and then spun and crashed into a second oncoming vehicle.

The driver and a passenger in the pickup were not hurt, and the driver of the third vehicle involved suffered only minor injuries that didn't require hospitalization, the CBC said.

The second crash, also attributed to poor road conditions, occurred Friday afternoon on Highway 3 west of Seven Persons when a pickup truck smashed into a 5-ton truck. Two people in the pickup were dead at the scene.

A third person in the pickup was hospitalized in critical condition, while a fourth occupant and the driver of the heavier truck received minor injuries, the CBC said.
