Iran holding two German journalists

TEHRAN, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Two reporters arrested in Iran on spying charges last month are employees of the weekly German tabloid Bild am Sonntag, the newspaper confirmed.

Iran said the two journalists were working illegally when they interviewed the son of a woman sentenced to death by stoning, euronews.net reported Wednesday.

The sentence handed to Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani for adultery has sparked international outrage.

The two journalists told Iranian television they were tricked into interviewing Ashtiani's family by an Iranian exile living in Germany.

The identity of the exile has not been revealed.

Germany said it is doing all it can to secure the release of the two reporters.
