At wrong airport, passengers stage sit-in

LIEGE, Belgium, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Irate Ryanair passengers refused to leave their plane after it landed in Belgium, not France as intended, passengers and witnesses said.

The sit-in by more than 100 people was staged on the runway in Liege, Belgium, Tuesday night, Radio France Internationale reported.

The Ryanair flight, supposed to land at Beauvais, near Paris, left Morocco three hours late. The Beauvais airport was shut down by fog, so they were taken to Liege instead.

Upon landing the passengers refused to leave, and since it was late, the pilot and crew left them on the plane.

"The plane didn't land in Beauvais, but in Liege without warning us. Consequently, we refused to leave the plane," said one passenger.

"People are obviously outraged. I'm just trying to look out for their well-being," said a firefighter who tried to talk them into moving to an airport lounge.

Ryanair said four planes had to be diverted to Liege and all the other passengers peacefully got onto buses to Beauvais.

"This is clearly a case of unreasonable behavior by a minority of passengers," said a spokesman.
