Five masked men armed with bats and hammers forced their way into the home of Jason Devine and beat Devine and a friend, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Tuesday.
Devine's wife and four children were not injured but Devine was beaten on the head, back and arms. His friend suffered a broken arm.
Devine told the Calgary Herald he thought the men intended to kill him when they broke into his home early Monday.
Most home invaders are seeking drugs or money but Devine said the five didn't take a thing.
"If it was a robbery, why did they put holes in the walls?" Devine said.
By the time police arrived, the invaders had fled.
Recently Devine and his wife put up posters in their neighborhood "outing" people they said were neo-Nazis.
