LONDON, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The former tabloid editor now working for David Cameron answered police questions about hacking into royal phones, the British prime minister's office says.
Andy Coulson was questioned Thursday during a meeting at a lawyer's office, Cameron's office said in a statement, which added that he was not placed under caution -- which would suggest he is a suspect -- or arrested, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Coulson, Cameron's press secretary, was editor of the News of the World when one of its reporters got access to cellphones used by Prince William and Prince Harry. The reporter was imprisoned, but a recent investigation by The New York Times suggested Coulson was aware of the hacking and that the practice was common.
The Metropolitan Police, sometimes referred to as Scotland Yard, refused to comment on whether Coulson had been interviewed.
