Saudi prince sentenced to prison

LONDON, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- A Saudi prince convicted of killing his servant has been handed a minimum jail sentence of 20 years by a judge at London's Old Bailey.

Prince Saud Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Saud, 34, admitted to manslaughter but not murder in the death of 32-year-old Bandera Abdulaziz, the BBC reported Wednesday.

Prosecutors charged the death of Abdulaziz was the final act in a "deeply abusive" master-servant relationship in which Al Saud carried out frequent attacks "for his own personal gratification."

They said the beating and strangling of Abdulaziz at the Landmark Hotel in February had a "sexual element."

Jurors were told that the servant was so worn down and injured from previous assaults that he let Saud kill him without a fight.

In passing sentence on the Saudi prince, the judge admonished him for exploiting his servant.

"I think the most likely explanation is that you could not care less whether you killed him or not," the judge said.
