Two aid workers kidnapped in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Gunmen kidnapped two Save the Children workers early Friday in Somalia near its border with Ethiopia, the humanitarian organization said.

Witnesses said a security consultant and a local aid worker were kidnapped during fighting involving tanks and heavy artillery around Adado, the BBC reported.

Save the Children said it had no information about the workers' condition or whereabouts. The British Foreign Office said it was investigating the incident.

Residents said an Islamic group aligned with the U.N.-backed Somali government seized the town from a local warlord Friday in clashes in which at least seven people died, the British broadcaster said.
