BERLIN, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Avigdor Lieberman says Israelis want peace and Israel is willing to resume talks with Palestine with no preconditions.

Lieberman, in Germany to meet with Vice Chancellor Guido Westerwelle, said, "The Israeli people want peace, but the other side must show good faith as well," Ynetnews reported.

Lieberman, deputy prime minister of Israel, used a mellower tone in his meeting with Westerwelle than he used in meetings with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner earlier in the week, the report said.

Lieberman said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government "has made plenty of goodwill gestures to enable negotiations with the Palestinians, but the Palestinians must reciprocate."

Lieberman also said Israel will open a consulate in Berlin next year and extended an invitation for Westerwelle to visit Israel.
